For the Chief Musician. With stringed instruments. A Psalm. A song.

67:1 May God be merciful to us, bless us, and cause his face to shine on us.

Selah.

67:2 That your way may be known on earth, and your salvation among all nations,

67:3 let the peoples praise you, God. Let all the peoples praise you.

67:4 Oh let the nations be glad and sing for joy, for you will judge the peoples with equity, and govern the nations on earth.

Selah.

67:5 Let the peoples praise you, God. Let all the peoples praise you.

67:6 The earth has yielded its increase. God, even our own God, will bless us.

67:7 God will bless us. All the ends of the earth shall fear him.

BAM – Psalms

Old Testament

Book of Psalms

Summarised in 1 Minute

Key Verses

Psalm 19:13-14 – Keep back your servant also from presumptuous sins. Let them not have dominion over me. Then I will be upright. I will be blameless and innocent of great transgression. Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, Yahweh, my rock, and my redeemer.

Psalm 145:21 – My mouth will speak the praise of Yahweh. Let all flesh bless his holy name forever and ever.

Summary

The book of Psalms, mostly written by King David, tells of the full range of human experience in a very personal and practical way. A lot of the Psalms foretell the coming of the Messiah, not only for Israel but the world. Certainly nearly all of them contain praises to the Lord.

POD – Psalms On Demand

As part of this blog, I am now hoping to produce POD: Psalms On Demand, for people to download and listen to, at a time convenient for them… They will also be given to a friend of mine who is going overseas on mission to a country where Christianity is severely restricted due to government legislation… Knowing my church, they may even be given to the housebound members on CD…  Now I could do it myself, but that would get very boring very quickly for anybody listening!  Just ask my wife how tedious it is to listen to me reading aloud for more than 10 minutes!! LOL So, I am endeavouring to recruit other people into this project as well…

Why am I doing it?  Good question and glad you asked!!

  • Most of the Psalm MP3 series, I hear are of one persons voice only! I would like to change that.
  • I have people across the globe contributing, including my own local church. So hopefully not only building bridges between continents, but also between the virtual and the local churches, because it will also involve some people I know, who have very little interest in, or knowledge of, virtual church and the internet in general…
  • To reflect the universality of the Psalms across nations, age and gender.   Currently I have 20 people involved from several different nations, ranging in age from 18 to 70 and both male and female.

More people are needed, thats why I am asking you, internet afficionados! I was wondering if some people here would like to contribute by recording themselves reading a Psalm (or several)… The Psalm(s) could be your own choice, providing somebody else hasnt already picked them! Currently the Psalms still available are:

7, 10, 14, 16, 17, 18, 19, 21, 22, 24, 25, 27, 28, 31, 33, 35, 37, 40, 41, 43, 44, 47, 48, 52, 53, 58, 59, 61, 62, 64, 65, 66, 68, 69, 71, 73, 77, 78, 79, 81, 82, 85, 86, 88, 89, 91, 93, 94, 95, 97, 99, 101, 102, 103, 106, 108, 110, 111, 112, 114, 116, 121, 122, 125, 126, 129, 133, 136, 138, 140, 141, 143, 145, 146, 148

Psalm 119 is still available, but it would be great if 23 different people did that one, each taking a section!  So maybe you might like to contribute a portion of that one!  Altogether that would be about 14 minutes. If one person were to read that, it may soon get tedious, but if 23 different voices were heard, certainly would be less so!

A sample of the sort of thing I am doing, can be heard by clicking here

What do you need?

You need a computer with a sound-card and a microphone… If you dont have voice recording software already, there are numerous programmes available to download free of charge…

Details

  • You can use any standard translation of the Bible, just tell me what version you will use so I can check the audio against the translation…
  • At the beginning, say what number the Psalm is, such as “Psalm One Hundred”…
  • No need to say the verse numbers… No music in the background, because people with hearing problems probably wont be able to hear you speak…
  • Record it and save the file at the highest possible quality…

I am sure you probably have further questions, so put them here and I shall endeavour to do my best to answer them!

Thank you and Blessings

POD – Psalm 1

Psalm 1

1 Oh, the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the wicked,
or stand around with sinners, or join in with mockers.

2 But they delight in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night.

3 They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season.
Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do.

4 But not the wicked!
They are like worthless chaff, scattered by the wind.

5 They will be condemned at the time of judgment.
Sinners will have no place among the godly.

6 For the Lord watches over the path of the godly, but the path of the wicked leads to destruction.
