Alfie brings you a WOW Word

 The Battle for Joy!

Hebrews 12:2 “Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising its shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

As Christians, we are all instruments in the orchestra of God’s joy. Does that describe your experience of joy? Let us ask ourselves at the very beginning what is joy? Is joy merely a form of bloated happiness as many people believe, including those in the church? Can joy be seen as going around everywhere with a silly grin etched into your face? That kind of joy is dependent upon circumstances and feelings!

C.S. Lewis once wrote: “Joy is never in our power, and pleasure is. I doubt whether anyone who has tasted true joy would ever, if both were in his power, exchange it for all the pleasure in the world.

True joy is not to be confused with mere pleasure or feeling good! True joy is to be a way of life and it is to permeate every facet of the person and not just the emotions! True joy is to be a deeper, inner joy whereby the source, object and target is to be God and God alone!

What is joy and how can you experience such joy? Play or download the mp3 audio to hear more about joy and its place within the life of the Christian Disciple!!

Jesus 06: How can you become a Christian?

36 ‘Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah.’
37 When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, ‘Brothers, what shall we do?’
38 Peter replied, ‘Repent and be baptised, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off – for all whom the Lord our God will call.’
40 With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, ‘Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.’ 41 Those who accepted his message were baptised, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.
42 They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. 43 Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. 44 All the believers were together and had everything in common. 45 They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. 46 Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, 47 praising God and enjoying the favour of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.
(Acts 2:36-47)

The act of deciding to change course in mid-life, is what is called conversion. You may also know it as being born again or deciding to be a Christian. When you place your faith in Jesus, becoming utterly dependent upon Him, you turn to God. That means that you have changed your intentions in the way you are going to live in future.

In the podcast today we investigate how you can become a Christian, and start following Jesus Christ today! Come and listen!

Jesus 04: Why would God become human?

16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son. 19 This is the verdict: light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20 Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed. 21 But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.
(John 3:16-21)

We continue looking at Christmas and because Jesus is no longer in the manger, we start investigating more about Jesus Christ. In the podcast today we investigate why God would become a human. Come and listen to find out more!

Christian Disciple and Healed Emotions

23 Search me, God, and know my heart;
test me and know my anxious thoughts.
24 See if there is any offensive way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting. (Psalm 139:23 to 24)

5 If anyone has caused grief, he has not so much grieved me as he has grieved all of you to some extent – not to put it too severely. 6 The punishment inflicted on him by the majority is sufficient. 7 Now instead, you ought to forgive and comfort him, so that he will not be overwhelmed by excessive sorrow. 8 I urge you, therefore, to reaffirm your love for him. 9 Another reason I wrote to you was to see if you would stand the test and be obedient in everything. 10 Anyone you forgive, I also forgive. And what I have forgiven – if there was anything to forgive – I have forgiven in the sight of Christ for your sake, 11 in order that Satan might not outwit us. For we are not unaware of his schemes.

God wants all parts of you to be following Jesus! That includes your thinking, your actions and your attitudes! It means your mind; your body and will are all to be under the control of the Holy Spirit! This includes your emotions. It must be said that this is contrary to some modern thinking, which stipulates that showing emotions can be a ruinous thing! In Scripture, God reveals Himself as emotional! Our Lord Jesus Christ displayed the full gamut of emotions

In the podcast today we look at the Christian Disciple working towards having healed emotions. What are some of the evidence of damaged emotions in the life of the Christian? How can they be overcome? What are some of the principles to bear in mind so this aspect of your life can be in submission to God?
Please do listen or download the mp3 podcast to find out more about this aspect in the life of the Christian.

Joy Gets Its Hands Dirty Part 3
Reflect God – Be holy

44 I am the LORD your God; consecrate yourselves and be holy, because I am holy. Do not make yourselves unclean by any creature that moves along the ground. 45 I am the LORD, who brought you up out of Egypt to be your God; therefore be holy, because I am holy. (Leviticus 11:44-45)

31 ‘Keep my commands and follow them. I am the LORD. 32 Do not profane my holy name, for I must be acknowledged as holy by the Israelites. I am the LORD, who made you holy 33 and who brought you out of Egypt to be your God. I am the LORD.’ (Leviticus 22:31-32)

G’day! In our last podcast we looked at God and discovered that while God is Almighty, that God is also personal, that God is a God of love and that God is Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit Indeed, the whole work of salvation is an act of love from a personal loving God, who is Trinity: God the Father ‘calls’; God the Son ‘redeems; and the Holy Spirit ‘seals’ people as God’s children (Ephesians 1:13-14). WOW!

Today we continue in Leviticus 18-19 by looking at Israel and how they were to respond to their God and reflect God to the surrounding nations. As commanded by God, Israel were to reflect God. “I am Holy”, declares God, “You must also be holy as I am.” In other words: “This is what I would do. So be obedient to me and you must do as I would do.” Israel were to reflect God’s holiness in a practical, down-to-earth, ‘get your hands dirty’ manner.

Together we explore questions such as: What were the main characteristics we can see of the relationship between God and Israel? How were the laws to be obeyed? What was worship to be for Israel? What does this mean for Christians today? Listen or download the mp3 podcast to find out more about God and following Him.
